EP Daily Rundown for November 29, 2016

Today in the Rundown, we have exclusive news about Dead Rising 4 from Capcom Vancouver! We also have rumours about Marvel vs. Capcom 4, new details on Nintendo’s attractions coming to Universal theme parks, global news about Pokémon Sun and Moon, a look at the next big Hearthstone expansion, and finally, we find out when you’ll get to play the final version of the online game Lego Worlds!

If you don’t have an Xbox One or a gaming PC, you’ll still be able to play Dead Rising 4… eventually. The new zombie game is being built for the Xbox One and PC, but it’s only a timed exclusive for both platforms. Microsoft inked a co-publishing deal with Capcom to make the PC version exclusive to Windows 10 for 90 days, while the console version will be an Xbox One exclusive for one year. This means that, after a year has passed, it will be able to be released on the PS4 and maybe even the Nintendo Switch, which will have been released by then. I got the chance to check out Dead Rising 4 at developer Capcom Vancouver, and I asked executive producer Bryce Cochrane about the potential ports to other systems. He confirmed that the game will be coming to other platforms after the exclusivity window has ended, although he didn’t confirm what those other platforms will be. A PS4 port seems like a no brainer, but we’ll have to wait and see about a Switch version. The Dead Rising series has a long history of Xbox exclusivity. The original game was an Xbox 360 exclusive when it was first released in 2006, and only found its way to other platforms this year, while Dead Rising 3 has so far only been released on the Xbox One and PC. Dead Rising 4 will take a bite out of the Xbox One and PC on December 6, and we’ll have plenty more on the game before it arrives.

And Dead Rising 4 isn’t the only new Capcom game that you can start getting excited about. An all-new Marvel vs. Capcom crossover fighting game is rumoured to be in the works. That’s according to Polygon, which reports that numerous sources have told them that Marvel vs. Capcom 4 is currently in development, and on track to be released in 2017. The site adds that the new game will get its official unveiling at Sony’s PlayStation Experience event in Anaheim this weekend, which also happens to be where the Capcom Cup 2016 Street Fighter 5 tournament is being held. We’ll let you know if the game is officially announced. The last big title in the series, Marvel vs. Capcom 3, was released in 2011 and became a huge hit. Rights issues between Marvel and Capcom have prevented the game from being re-released, so if a new one really is on the way, it looks like those issues have been worked out.

We’re getting a better idea about how you’ll be able to enter the Mushroom Kingdom in real life. Nintendo and Universal Studios have announced new details about their plans to bring Nintendo-themed attractions to Universal theme parks, a collaboration that was first announced last year. First up, Nintendo and Universal have revealed that the attractions won’t just be individual rides or shops; they’ll be entire Nintendo-themed worlds within the Universal parks, filled with multiple attractions, shops, and restaurants of their own based around the most iconic Nintendo games. Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto says that the worlds will be like walking into a real-life Nintendo game, and the game designers themselves are working with Universal to make sure they feel authentic. Secondly, Universal Studios has revealed for the first time which of their theme parks are getting the Nintendo worlds. They’re coming to all three of the main Universal parks – Hollywood, Orlando, and Osaka Japan – which means that their lesser-known park in Singapore is being left out. Universal is currently constructing new parks in China, Russia, and South Korea, but they haven’t said if those parks will be getting their own Nintendo attractions. The three that are will be getting them in the next few years. That’s about all they’ve announced for now, so we’ll let you know when more specific details about the Nintendo worlds come down the pipe.

Pokémon players all over the world will be able to come together like never before. The new 3DS game Pokémon Sun and Moon is kicking off its first Global Mission today. Trainers have been asked to catch 100 million Pokémon between now and December 13 – that’s 100 million from everyone collectively, not all by yourself. If everyone is able to do it, each participant will receive 1000 Festival Coins as a reward, and if the goal isn’t met, a participation prize of 100 coins will be given out instead. You’ll need to use the built-in Game Sync through the online Pokémon Global Link before December 13 in order for your catches to be included in the final count. This is only the first of many Global Missions that are coming to the new game. They’re a new feature that the developers are introducing with Sun and Moon, giving players the chance to work together to meet collective goals. Expect more to be announced soon.

If you think you know how to play Hearthstone, Blizzard is about to turn the tables on you. Mean Streets of Gadgetzan, the fourth big expansion for their digital card battle game, will launch this Thursday, December 1. Blizzard is using the expansion to shake things up a bit. It will feature 132 new cards, and some of them will be the new tri-class cards, which, unlike the existing cards, can be used by three different classes. This means players will need to change the way they create their decks, and Blizzard hopes it will open up all new kinds of gameplay possibilities.

The biggest Lego video game yet is almost finished being put together. Developer Traveller’s Tales and Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment have announced that the final version of their massive sandbox game Lego Worlds will launch on February 21, 2017. An unfinished version of the game has been available on the PC through Steam Early Access since last year, but this will be the completed version, incorporating the feedback the developers have received from Early Access players. Alongside the release date announcement, the developers have also revealed that they’re bringing the game to the PS4 and Xbox One for the first time, with those versions launching on the same day. So what exactly is Lego Worlds? It’s basically Lego’s answer to Minecraft, with players having the freedom to create anything they want inside a vast online world. There are all kinds of different characters, vehicles, and items, and there are also story missions inspired by real-life Lego playsets. Lego Worlds is expected to get bigger and bigger after launch, with the developers planning to continuously update it with new expansions and DLC for years to come.
