Earlier today, we found out that director Edgar Wright has abruptly departed Marvel’s Ant-Man movie, so here’s some good directorial news to bring balance to the Force.
Legendary Pictures has announced that Godzilla director Gareth Edwards will still be back to helm the monstrous film’s sequel, despite the fact that he just signed on to direct the first Star Wars spin-off due out in 2016. The studio says that Edwards had always planned to go off and helm another film in between the two Godzillas, and they wish him well with his adventure in the galaxy far, far away. Since his Star Wars film will land in 2016, don’t expect to see Godzilla 2 until at least 2018 or 2019.
Here’s the official statement from Legendary:
The plan has always been for Gareth to direct a different film before we started on another Godzilla, but who knew it would a Star Wars installment? We have a great plan in store for Godzilla fans and I am looking forward to seeing Gareth’s imprint on the Star Wars universe.
