Rock Band developer Harmonix is heading into new territory once again.
The studio has announced A City Sleeps, a side-scrolling, twin-stick shooter where the gameplay and music are synchronized. Each level is based around an original tune composed by Harmonix, with the beat of the song driving the projectiles that you fire at your enemies. The beat will also drive the enemy movement and help determine the layout of each level.
A City Sleeps follows Poe, youngest member of The Silk, an ancient clan of dream exorcists that can enter the minds of sleeping hosts to rid their dreams of demons. When the residents of SanLo fall into an endless slumber, only Poe can rescue them from a never-ending nightmare. Equipped with her legendary Koto-sword “Heartstrings”, and flanked by her stable of powerful ghost familiars, she must cleanse their dreams, and uncover the city’s dark secrets.
A City Sleeps will be available this October on the PC and Mac via Steam. Harmonix is currently working on several other new projects, including the music-based 3D shooter Chroma and the reboot of Amplitude. Their latest game, Fantasia: Music Evolved, arrives October 21.
