Get over here! NetherRealm Studios has finally announced something we all knew was coming: the next-gen Mortal Kombat game.
It’s titled Mortal Kombat X, and promises to use next-gen technology to make gore and decapitations look more beautiful than ever. This will be the first game in the series to feature multiple variations of each character, offering different fighting styles. There will also be persistent online integration, but we’ll have to wait until E3 next week to learn more about that.
Mortal Kombat X combines cinematic presentation with all new gameplay to deliver the most brutal Kombat experience ever, offering a new fully-connected experience that launches players into a persistent online contest where every fight matters in a global battle for supremacy. For the first time, Mortal Kombat X gives players the ability to choose from multiple variations of each character impacting both strategy and fighting style. Players step into an original story showcasing some of the game’s most prolific characters including Scorpion and Sub-Zero, while introducing new challengers that represent the forces of good and evil and tie the tale together.
Mortal Kombat X will enter the ring in 2015. Although it’s being built first for next-gen consoles and the PC, versions are also in the works for the PS3 and Xbox 360. More details on the game will be announced at E3 next week.
