Marvel has officially announced that British actor Charlie Cox will play Daredevil (aka Matt Murdock) in the new 13-episode series they’re producing exclusively for Netflix.
Cox is best known for starring in the 2007 fantasy film Stardust, and he also appeared as a supporting player in the second and third seasons of Boardwalk Empire. This will be his biggest and most heroic role by far, and he’s the first actor announced for any of the new Marvel/Netflix projects. The Daredevil series recently lost showrunner Drew Goddard, who’s been replaced by Spartacus creator Steven S. DeKnight.
Daredevil will hit Netflix in 2015. The new show will serve as the jumping off point for several other Marvel shows for Netflix focusing on other heroes, and they’ll all culminate in a crossover series called The Defenders.
