Godzilla and Pacific Rim aren’t the only giant monster franchises that Legendary Pictures is taking on.
The studio has announced that it’s developing a new movie based on King Kong. The film is titled Skull Island, and will explore Kong’s terrifying island home, and all the prehistoric creatures that dwell there. It’s unclear if the new film will be part of the same continuity as the original 1933 Kong movie, or start fresh as a reboot.
It’s worth pointing out that King Kong fought Godzilla in a 1962 film, and since Legendary Pictures currently holds the rights to both franchises, it’s not inconceivable that the two monsters could battle each other again in a future spin-off.
Skull Island will land in theatres on November 4, 2016.
