One of the worst films ever made is getting a sequel, and we’re not talking about the next Transformers.
Cineridge Entertainment has officially announced that it’s developing a follow up to the hilariously bad 80s action movie Samurai Cop, widely considered to be one of the worst films ever made. The new one will be titled Samurai Cop 2: Deadly Vengeance, and shooting is expected to begin soon for a 2015 release. Most of the surviving cast members will be back, including people you’ve probably never heard of like Matt Hannon, Mark Frazer, and Gerald Okamura. Like the original, expect it to focus on an American cop, trained in the way of the samurai, who uses his deadly talents to take down a drug-dealing Yakuza gang.
There are a lot of bad movies, but the original Samurai Cop is one of the few that are so bad, it’s fun to watch. It offers a hilarious blend of terrible acting and badly-executed action sequences that make it as enjoyable as the most famously horrible movies like The Room or Troll 2. They weren’t trying to make a bad film, it just sort of happened, and therein lies a big problem for the sequel. Will they make a bad movie on purpose? If they do, it likely won’t be as enjoyable as the original. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
