The ability to pre-load pre-ordered titles on PlayStation 4 will begin with Bungie’s Destiny in September, Sony has confirmed.
Pre-loading was added as part of the console’s 1.7 update, and many assumed that it would be used for upcoming major titles such as Watch Dogs, but this isn’t the case. “Beginning with Destiny, certain pre-ordered titles can be automatically be pre-loaded prior to their release,” an update on the PlayStation support page reads. “This lets you rest easy knowing that your game will be ready for play the second its release date hits.”
It’s worth noting that “only titles designated as having pre-load functionality at the time of pre-order purchase can be pre-loaded.”
Destiny is available to pre-order now from the PlayStation Store in the U.S., and doing so will automatically grant you a place in the upcoming beta that is set to begin in July. Pre-load will begin on September 4, ahead of the game’s September 9 launch.
