Just a few days out from its long-awaited release, developer Yacht Club Games today posted a launch trailer for their upcoming 8-bit debut Shovel Knight.
As seen in the video (above), Shovel Knight lovingly blends elements of Mega Man, DuckTales, Super Mario Bros. 3, and bits and pieces of other classics to create a retro-experience that’s both homage and something that’s its own. The same, but different, as they say in film.
Yacht Club Games was formed by former WayForward Technologies director Sean Velasco in 2011. Valesco and his team took to Kickstarter early last year to fund Shovel Knight, and by April 13, 2013 raked in $311,502 in funding. Their target goal was $75,000.
Shovel Knight launches on Steam, Nintendo 3DS, and Wii U June 26. Look for EGM’s review (read: mine) that Thursday morning.
