We’re probably still a few years away from the universal translators seen on Star Trek, but here’s something similar in the meantime.
Microsoft’s research division has announced that its working on a translator add-on for Skype. It will translate whatever you say into a different language in real-time, so you can have conversations with anyone from anywhere in the world. The project is the result of decades of research in speech-recognition, automatic-translation, and machine-learning technologies.
Skype Translator will begin beta testing before the end of the year.
