It’s no secret that The Avengers 2 will feature new superheroes, and now writer/director Joss Whedon may have revealed who two of those new heroes will be.
Speaking with Yahoo Movies at the red carpet premiere of Iron Man 3, Whedon says that the next Avengers film will introduce two of his favourite Marvel comic book characters, a brother and sister duo. He didn’t say exactly who they are, but Marvel’s most famous brother/sister team is Quicksilver and The Scarlet Witch, two twin mutants created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1964. They start out bad, but eventually switch sides and become part of the second generation of Avengers.
The Avengers 2 will land in theatres in summer 2015, so you can expect Whedon to tease us with more hints before then. He also reiterated that actor Clark Gregg will reprise the role of Agent Phil Coulson in the upcoming SHIELD TV series. Whedon refused to reveal just how the character will be back from the dead, so we’ll have to wait for the first episode to find out. That’s expected to arrive this fall.
Here is what Quicksilver and The Scarlet Witch look like in one of the more recent comics:
